Inspiring change through confidence

I’ve experienced FEAR with every challenge in my life. 


I was afraid when I knew I needed to change my career path, I was afraid of listening to my own voice, I was afraid of that amazing job interview, I was afraid of the networking events where I was the only female, I was afraid when I moved house alone, and I was afraid when I knew I had to divorce my husband.


Fear has been with me all the way. It never leaves my side.  The secret to success is, that I’ve learned to embrace fear.


Through embracing my fears, I’ve achieved success.


I’ve been an award winner; Women in Logistics Woman of the Year and Everywoman Award for Innovation and Sustainability. I’ve been called a ‘role model,’ I’ve achieved my corporate targets, I moved house and changed job at the same time, I’ve attended networking events alone, I’ve set up my own business and I’m publishing my first book.  This is just to name a few!


If you want to change your life, if you crave success, if you want to have a voice and be heard or aspire to say one day “I did that!” I can tell you it’s absolutely possible.  All you have to do is overcome your FEAR.


Right now, the roadblock between you and success, is FEAR.


What is fear?

Fear is the roadblock towards confidence.  When you feel a lack of confidence, you are indulging and trusting in your fear.  You believe the outcome will be negative if you try.  This type of thinking can lead to:

  • Anxiety
  • Insecurity
  • The feelings on lack of fulfilment and unhappiness
  • Low motivation and self-esteem
  • Lack of success
  • Feeling unfit and unhealthy


You might find this surprising, but fear is necessary for you to move forward and reach your potential.  It’s a natural part of being human and protects you and I from danger.  Fear is a communication tool allowing you the choice to fight or take flight.  It’s not always right to assume that to follow the message of fear is correct.  Quite often the ego (the fear) is challenging you; “you can’t do that because you’re not good enough.”

An example of this is personal development and stepping outside of your comfort zone.  Your ego will try and protect you.  “Don’t go there it’s scary and dangerous.  You might fail, what’s the point in trying anyway?”  The ego is afraid of venturing outside of the familiar zone, it prefers routine and the feeling of being safe, however it’s unaware of your potential.  You have the potential to learn, grown and develop new skills and nurture new strengths.

This is where courage comes in.

Courage by definition means fearlessness.  It’s activated by a mind-set and an inner want to face whatever the obstacle is.  There is a drive; that is courage.

When fear becomes involved, this is when courage steps in.  It is strong and mighty, more so than confidence. It’s optimistic and it’s positive. It will support you all the way as long as you allow it to.


The good news is that you can learn how to be more confident and spark courage to act.


You can learn to be grateful for fear existing and you can embrace it with both hands by understanding it.


The three key areas confidence with courage can overcome are:


  1. Anxiety
  2. Fear
  3. Negativity


Fear won’t simply go away. It takes a conscious effort to nurture the skills of confidence and courage.


I’ve worked with clients to overcome fear, who have gone on to make successful changes.


I’m now going to share with you how you can train your mind to overcome FEAR so you can take action towards success right now.


Take a deep breath, ignite your courage, and ask yourself these five questions:


  • Think of a fear you have right that is stopping you from moving forward.


  1. What could the outcome be if I take action?


  1. What’s the worst that could happen?


  1. Is it likely to happen and if so, can I handle it?


  1. Can I do anything to change the outcome, how much can I influence it, what are the options open to me?


  1. How would I feel if I embraced my fear and actually did it?
