Confidence has the ability to change your life. It can add fulfilment which results in an increased sense of happiness. I wanted to increase my confidence because I wanted more from life. I wanted to feel success and I wanted to be me without judgement. I no longer wanted to justify myself behind a façade, I wanted my voice to be heard and I wanted to do it with a feeling of pride. Without that confidence learning curve, I would still be that person wanting change.
Due to the learning action I took, I was able to gift myself many new experiences, I learned to play golf, I travelled alone, I made new friends and I feel successful in what I’ve achieved. Without confidence, the status quo remains. Nothing changes without action. Some of the key benefits resulting from my increase in confidence were:
- An increased sense of happiness
- More physical energy and better health
- A higher level of motivation and commitment
- The feeling of more success through achieving goals
- Job satisfaction
- Freedom from anxiety
- More fun times
Without confidence, you risk living life without truly realising your true potential. You risk living small. You need confidence to show you what your strengths are in order to be the very best version of you.
Fear is the roadblock towards confidence. When you feel a lack of confidence, you are indulging and trusting in your fear. You believe the outcome will be negative if you try.
This type of thinking can lead to:
- The feelings on lack of fulfilment and unhappiness
- Low motivation and self-esteem
- Lack of success
- Feeling unfit and unhealthy
You might find this surprising, but fear is necessary for you to move forward and reach your potential. It’s a natural part of being human and protects you and I from danger. Fear is a communication tool allowing you the choice to fight or take flight. It’s not always right to assume that to follow the message of fear is correct. Quite often the ego (the fear) is challenging you; “you can’t do that because you’re not good enough.”
An example of this is personal development and stepping outside of your comfort zone. Your ego will try and protect you. “Don’t go there it’s scary and dangerous. You might fail, what’s the point in trying anyway?” The ego is afraid of venturing outside of the familiar zone, it prefers routine and the feeling of being safe, however it’s unaware of your potential. You have the potential to learn, grown and develop new skills and nurture new strengths. This is where courage comes in.
The quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger and pain etc., without fear; bravery
Courage by definition means fearlessness. It’s activated by a mind-set and an inner want to face whatever the obstacle is. There is a drive; that is courage.
When fear becomes involved, this is when courage steps in. It is strong and mighty, more so than confidence. It’s optimistic and it’s positive. It will support you all the way as long as you allow it to.
The good news is that you can learn how to be more confident and spark courage to act. You can learn to be grateful for fear existing and you can embrace it with both hands by understanding it.
The three key areas confidence with courage can overcome are:
Fear won’t simply go away. It takes a conscious effort to nurture the skills of confidence and courage.
“F-E-A-R has two meanings: ‘Forget everything and run’ or ‘Face everything and rise.’ The choice is yours.”
I now have two questions for you:
- Are you ready and committed to learn how to build your confidence?
- Are you ready to be courageous?
Overcoming fear has the ability to change your life.
Without action, you risk living life without truly realising your true potential.
